From the rugged highlands, to the cultural heritage of its capital city, Edinburgh, wherever you go in Scotland you will find generosity and friendliness and the hotel trade is no exception. One of the most exclusive options for accommodation is an Edinburgh boutique hotel. There are a few select Edinburgh boutique hotels to choose from each one stamped with its own individual flair. Taking your pick of which of these exclusive little destinations to stay in can be quite a challenge. One of the main things to consider is location, most of the Edinburgh boutique hotels are in the city centre but some may be closer than others to the main attractions.

Another factor is the surroundings you want to find yourself in. All boutique hotels are uniquely created to have their own ambience. So the choice of lavish traditional or modern chic is up to you. One thing you can guarantee is that you won't be one of a horde of guests arriving at the breakfast table. Exclusive is the name of the game in these places and no boutique hotel will have more than twenty to thirty rooms including suites. Each room will have been created in its own style.

Many of these residences show Georgian influence on the outside but are totally modern on the inside; stone steps and iron railings belie the chic design of the interior or you can chose to stay in an Edinburgh boutique hotel where the Georgian theme is continued throughout. All these establishments will offer the highest quality cuisine and one of the quirky traits of a boutique hotel is that there is often a communal "lounge" where guests can gather read a book watch a DVD and get to know other guests.

Edinburgh boutique hotels will all offer Wi-Fi internet access and often have I-Pod docks and CD/DVD players in the rooms. Some offer suites where self catering facilities are on offer if you chose not to eat in the dining room. Most of the hotels accept children but they are best accommodated in the suites where they have freedom to play, some hotels offer suites with gardens. There aren't any electronic games rooms in boutique hotels. As most of these hotels are sited in listed buildings so a dress code usually applies for dinner even if its "home from home cosy". It isn't done not to scrub up and be presentable in the dining room, or to watch your table manners. Edinburgh boutique hotels are mostly situated around the chic west end of the city. Theatre trips, airport transfers and cultural visits can all be booked from the hotel.

So what is there to see if you can tear yourself away from your little piece of luxury? One of the most famous attractions is Edinburgh Castle. Sitting on a rock overlooking the city it is by far the best known of the Scottish castles and it is also home to the "Scottish Crown Jewels" and the famous Stone of Destiny. Edinburgh itself is a vibrant cultural city with some of the best Edinburgh luxury hotels right in the city centre. As you would expect for a city full of attractions there are as many accommodation opportunities as there are days out and choosing which one to head for can be quite a challenge.

Lovers of the Royal family will enjoy a trip around the Royal Yacht Britannia which is moored here. She has seen many famous world leaders walking her decks but she was of course primarily the floating holiday home of the Queen and her family and it is a great pleasure to be able to view this fine liner and all her splendour now she is retired.

Scotland will ever be synonymous with a "wee dram" and the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre is the country's best whisky attraction.

There is plenty of culture on offer in the city and no one staying in a hotel will be too far away from a museum or gallery. The art collections of Scotland are claimed to be some of the best in the world and the entrance to all these sites is free.

Edinburgh's nightlife is legendary; whether you want a casual evening out or some fine dining you won't have to walk too far to find it here. Lovers of nightlife will be spoiled here and there is an area of the city dotted with clubs, pubs and bars.
